Into the Dark - Fall 2019
When the lights go off and you squint to see, everything transforms before your eyes. Familiar things become obscure and something unusual turns intriguing. Your imagination fills in the blanks created by the absence of light and what comes out of it is never expected. Lines of stray light appear from cracks under a doorway, shadows misguide you through a space you know too well, and reflections mirror your confusion as everything continues to change. What little light is left and the darkness surrounding you both contribute to your altered perception. Focusing becomes the task at hand, but understanding the few things you see is more difficult than you would believe.

Between Dusk and Dawn - Photobook - Fall 2018
Who are you when the sun goes down?
Shadows might not be able to illuminate the beauty of the night, But they can comfort you as you hide in plain sight. There is no comforting silence waiting in the night; Instead there is a symphony conducted by the moon. The moon may cast soft, subtle shadows, But street lights can create more contrast than the sun. Minor problems are either consumed by bigger shadows, Or sit in a light that creates its own darkness you can't ignore. I squint to see beyond blinking headlights and my eyes focus on tiny cracks; But I can't tell if I am looking through a broken lens or at a broken mirror. I see the haze in my mind reflected in the sky. City lights polluting the night like the sun does when I open my eyes. What do you hide when the sun comes out? |
Visual Space - Fall 2018
Reflections show us mirror images of the world but they can’t replicate the things we see in them. A reflection is not reality no matter how closely it resembles it. Mirrors instead create another world in a unique way. It’s always slightly off; a little backwards, or a bit warped, and sometimes broken. These ‘other worlds’ created by reflections can be seen all around us but it’s not too often that we focus on them or look closely.

Chasing Redbird - Spring 2018
Paper creatures.
Wings and legs brought to life by the words written across them. Ink spiraling off the pages of a book to form vivid images in your mind. Things that feel so real in the moment but fade away when reality creeps back in. A world that doesn't exist right in front of your eyes. Fiction that turns out to be true. Fantastic reality. |
